Give your child the opportunity to build, create, code, and collaborate this fall! The STEAM After School Club, delivered by Next Gen Edu Care in partnership with the Diamond Valley Youth Foundation, combines hands-on learning in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math through exciting projects, robotics, coding, design, and teamwork challenges. Designed for students in Grades 2–12, our 10-week program runs Thursdays at the Sheep River Library and is just $150 per student thanks to a 50% subsidy made possible through the support of the Diamond Valley Youth Foundation, Foothills Energy Co-op, and Sheep River Library. Space is limited and registration is now open for Fall 2026.

Level 1: Grades K-3 – LEGO City Builders
Every great engineer started with a pile of bricks and a big idea. Kids build the fundamentals, then design their own piece of a class-wide LEGO city.
Level 1 · Grades K–3 — LEGO City Builders
Young engineers, your city needs you!
Kids start with three guided builds using LEGO SPIKE kits to learn the fundamentals — stability, symmetry, and how to actually plan before you build.
From there, the class shifts into open city-building: each student (or team) chooses their district — residential, commercial, transportation, or green space — and adds their creation to a shared LEGO city that keeps growing week to week.
The term wraps with a showcase where kids present their piece of the city and explain their design choices.
Kids walk away having strengthened spatial reasoning and fine motor skills, learned to plan before building, and built something they had real ownership over as part of a bigger, shared project.
Level 2: Grades 4–6 — App Builders Academy
Your youth uses apps all day — this is where they learn to build one.
Level 2 · Grades 4–6 — App Builders Academy
Ever wondered how the apps on your phone actually work — and what it would take to build one?
Students spend the first three sessions on Scratch, building interactive, app-like projects (clickable menus, score trackers, animated interfaces) to develop the logic instincts every developer needs.
Then they make the leap to MIT App Inventor, a real browser-based tool used to build actual Android apps, where each student designs, codes, and tests their own app around a theme that matters to them — a game, a quiz, a tool, whatever they’re into.
On the final session, students export their finished app straight to their own phone or tablet — walking away with a real, working app they built from scratch, not just a worksheet.
Level 3 · Grades 6–9 — App Dev Pro
For the teen who’s already sketched their app idea. Same path as Level 2, plus extra time each week to push their own project further.
Level 3 · Grades 6–9 — App Dev Pro
Level 3 follows the same path as Level 2 — Scratch, then MIT App Inventor — but with one addition:
Every session includes an extra 30 minutes dedicated entirely to deep customization.
This is where good apps become great ones — new animations, extra screens, pulling in web data, refining the interface, or building in whatever feature a student imagined mid-session.
It’s unstructured creative time guided only by the student’s own vision and instructor mentorship.
By the final session, Level 3 students have a polished, feature-rich app saved to their own device — and they close out the term with a brief demo of the one feature they’re proudest of.
